Homework Policy

HOMEWORK POLICY - LEAP CLASS 

 SEE "ASSIGNMENTS"  FOR SPECIFIC WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS

LEAP TUTORING MANUAL begins on Wednesday.

 HOMEWORK is expected from 1 - 4 nights. READING IS EXPECTED IN SOME MANNER 
EACH NIGHT. Parents, To encourage stronger readers........ALL READING COUNTS!
 
LEAP CLASS regular homework schedule begins week of August 17.
Thursday's weekly class allows for 30 minutes of study skills, working on 
specific projects, or homework in general,with 100 points monthly earned by 
the conscientious learner. Students actually SIGN up naming specific 
assignment. Internet reseach is allowed with assistance given across the 
curriculum at this time.

WEEKLY LEAP READING ASSIGNMENTS (Read and Respond below)ARE DUE THURSDAY EACH 
WEEK (end of class)
Students begin an in class novel to use while practicing reading strategies. 
(They will review/learn ten strategies in all with accompanying work sheets, 
and other familiar varieties: SQ3R, POSSE......will be covered.

READ AND RESPOND 
THREE Read and Respond are due each THURSDAY (33 points each - 100 pts).
This Involves a split column page with facts from chaper on left side; use of 
strategy on right.
(No work will be accepted after the following Monday. Grade penalty of -5 
daily =late)

WEEKLY 50/50 ASSIGNMENT.
ANALOGIES/COOPERATIVE JOURNAL - 50 points
Students turn in weekly ANALOGIES (three days each week in class)/COOPERATIVE 
JOURNAL (two days each week, working with a partner) (50 pts WEEKLY)
VOCABULARY - 50 points
Students turn in 10 - 15 VOCABULARY (testing vocabulary,roots, suffixes, 
prefixes, as well), These words are written using a selected strategy 
by Friday. (I GIVE them the word AND definition; they write it in strategy 
form.)

  VOCABULARY
10 - 12 words and their DEFINITIONS given weekly; these are included on the 
Weekly Friday quiz. Words are all test related and/or prefix/suffixes/ or 
roots to learn.

                     READ,READ,READ.  
Students are learning that EACH type of reading requires varied strategies.

                        ENGLISH 
The Writing Process will be review and practiced with 
EDITING and PROOFING  inclass and sometimes for homework.


- Students will make use of The Writing Process....always.
brainstorming, organizing, editing and revision a rough draft, final
Independent written assignments related to our reading activities , as well 
as those found on www.louisianapass.org will be used.

 Writing strategies will be studied throughout the year.
The first louisianapass.org topic used will be

LEAP essay #1   Expository
 "Describe and explain an EVERYDAY HERO" 

LEAP essay #2:  Persuasive
"The School board wants to change the school year to an all year school. The 
plan is for three months school, one month vaction. The audience is SCHOOL 
BOARD.

LEAP essay #3
Students are to "Describe life in 50 years, giving clar details along with 
evidence and examples. The composition will be written for the school's 
litery magazine"

(Your child will receive the results from LA state online grading, 
indicating strengths and weaknesses.
Other writing topics will be  distributed 
We will be working on these in a timely manner, then submitting for state 
evaluation(As well as in class grade:) 
                    WEEKLY QUIZ
Every Friday students are quizzed on analogies, strategies, vocabulary, and 
the editing and proofing practiced, as well as comprehension questions on 
the in class novel, as well as other material covered.

I have attempted to give you an overview of "regular" class work and 
expectations. Initally some reviewing and introductory materials will be
