Classroom Procedures

Homework Procedures:

I will send home a homework assignment sheet on Monday of each week that will outline the week’s homework assignments and assessment dates. The homework assignment sheet will also include important announcements. In addition to the weekly homework assignment sheet, your child will have an assignment notebook. I am going to require that your child copy the homework assignment from the board daily. In the assignment notebook you will find the day’s homework assignment.  I am going to ask that you sign the assignment notebook daily in order to ensure me that you have seen the assignment and that it has been completed. I will expect your child to complete all homework on time and neatly. This is a wonderful way for us to keep open lines of communication with one another as well.

Homework Folder:

The homework folder will be used to send home any papers from the office, classroom letters, or important information you may need. I may send home an activity sheet for your child to complete and return in the homework folder. Please use the homework folder to send me all important information, lunch money, doctor’s excuses, transportation change notices, etc.

Assessments:

Every Thursday your child will be tested in reading and spelling. Assessment dates will vary for all other subjects.

Graded Paper Folder:

Your child’s graded paper folder will be sent home every Tuesday with the previous week’s test papers and daily work. The test papers will be stamped please sign and return and located in the left pocket of the folder. These papers must be returned by Wednesday morning in order to ensure me that you are aware of your child’s progress. Daily work from the previous week will also go home on Tuesday. These papers will be found in the right pocket of the folder. These papers are for you to keep. They do not need to be returned to school.

Behavior Policy:

Please refer to the classroom behavior plan for a detailed description of our classroom behavior policy.

Snack:

I ask that you send your child in with a healthy snack and drink everyday. We will have a “working snack” procedure in our classroom. This system is effective and the children really seem to enjoy it.

Lunch Money:

Please send your child’s lunch money in a sealed envelope labeled in the following manner:

Child’s Name (first and last)

Teacher

Lunch Number

Amount of Money

You do not need to separate breakfast and lunch money. Students will receive a lunch menu at the beginning of each month, and it will also be posted on the school website.

Transportation Changes:

If your child will have a change to his/her normal method of transportation we must notify the school office. All notifications must be in writing. Please use a full size sheet of paper. The note should include the child’s full name, teacher’s name, date, nature of change, and parent’s signature. The note should be placed in your child’s homework folder so that I can retrieve it and forward it to the school office for approval.

Absentee Procedure:

If your child is absent, you need to send in a note when they return to school. Excused absences require a doctor’s note. Please see that your child is at school on time. The first bell rings at 8:17, and students are counted as tardy if they arrive after 8:20. Instruction begins as soon as students walk in the door. If your child is being checked out during the day for an appointment, please send in a note notifying me of the time.

Visitors/Volunteers:

I encourage all parents and family members to visit our school and to be active. All visitors and volunteers are required to sign in at the front office and to wear an identification badge while on campus. If you would like to volunteer in our classroom, please contact me through email or send me a note in the homework folder. We will discuss this further at open house.

Scholastic Book Orders:

I will send home scholastic books orders at the beginning of each month. I will always notify you through the homework assignment sheet of when the order is due. Please pay for the order with checks only. Please send both the check and the order form in a labeled, sealed envelope. Please make the check payable to the company you are ordering from.

Birthday Celebrations:

Please feel welcome to bring in a birthday treat for your child and his/her classmates if you so wish. I ask that you send me a note in your child’s homework folder two days before you plan to bring in the special treat so that I can get back to you with a good time for the celebration.

Reading:

The more children read the more their love for reading grows. I encourage your children to read nightly at home. You will find an “At Home Reading Log” in your child’s homework folder. If your child successfully reads an AR book at home, he/she can record the appropriate information on the log. Please assist your child in doing this to ensure they have correctly written the title, book level, and points. I ask that you initial next to every entry to verify that your child successfully read the book.

You can find our AR Quiz List at this website:
