When is homework due? What should we do if we lose the homework sheet?

Homework is due on the day after it is assigned. Monday's
homework is due on Tuesday, Tuesday's homework is due on
Wednesday etc. The homework sheet is sent home on Friday. It will
also be posted on this website every Friday. I encourage you to
let your child complete their homework independently. Please
check it and sign it when it is completed. It would
be helpful if you could see that your child has packed it in
their folder in their bookbag. If the assignment sheet is lost
you can access it on this website. If that is not possible then
if you send a note to school the homework assignment sheet and
any worksheets can be replaced.

How do I notify the school of a transportation change?

Your child has a "usual" way of getting home from
school each day even though the way they go home on Monday might
be different than the way they go home on Tuesday. When a change
comes up in the "usual" way that they go home for that day, the
request must be in writing. Please use a full sheet
of paper. The note should include the child's full name,
teacher's name, date, what the change needs to be, as well as a
parent's signature. The note should be
given to the teacher to be forwarded to the office to document.
Please remind/encourage your child to turn those notes in to the
teacher in the morning. A note at 3:15 makes for a frantic
dismisal.

What should my child do with their Buzz Bucks?

The Honey Hive is open during lunch recess on Thursdays for
students to spend their Buzz Bucks. These have been earned for
following school rules and exhibiting positive behavior. Many
students like to keep these in a "Buzz Buck holder" which can be
purchased from the school office. Buzz Bucks cannot be replaced
if they are lost or washed in a pocket. The colors
change each nine weeks. Students need to spend the old color by
the Thurday following the end of the 9 weeks.

When should we pay lunch money?

Lunch money should be paid weekly or monthly. It should be sent
in an envelope clearly marked with the student's full name,
teacher's name, amount being paid and the child's lunch code
number. You do not need to identify breakfast money and lunch
money. Students are given a lunch menu at the beginning of the
month and it is also posted on the Honey Island website.

Does my child need a snack each day?

What about book clubs?

I will send home book club forms at the beginning of the month.
Please make your checks out directly to the book club. We recieve
points toward classroom books and materials when you order and
students enjoy receiving books in class.

What about AR books read at home?

An at home book list will be sent home. This is where the title
of any books read at home can be written down. Students should
take AR tests within one day of completing a book. Students can
test on books read at home as well as books that are read with
the child or to the child. You will recieve a form telling you
what level your child should be reading
independently at. You can locate Honey Island's Accelerated
reader list at the following site:

What is the school's policy on visitors and volunteers?

We encourage parents and family members to visit our school and
to be active. All visitors and volunteers need to sign in at
the front ofice and wear an identificaion badge while on the
campus. This is a state law and will be enforced for your
child's safety. Please sign in using the volunteer book in the
front office. The PTA logs volunteer hours which
includes chaperoning field trips and helping out at class
parties. Unexpected classroom visits and hall conferences are not
allowed at our school. If you need to see your child or need to
drop something off, the ofice will send for the child.

Can I meet my child for lunch?

You are always welcome to join your child for lunch. Lunchtime
for our class is from 11:40- 12:00, followed by recess from 12:00-
12:20. If you plan to buy a school lunch you can phone the
cafeteria, or send a note so they can include you in their count
when preparing lunches. It would be helpful if you can have exact
change for your lunch.

When should library books be returned?

Our class has a library once a week on Monday morning, when students can return
their library books. Please help remind your child to return
their library book so they can check out a new one. If they
complete it on another day have them bring it to school as we
have open checkout on the other four days in the morning.

What time should my child be at school?

Please try to have your child at school on time. The bell rings
for school to begin at 8:17, and students are counted as tardy if
they arrive after that. Instruction begins as students enter the
classroom. Students can be brought to school starting at 7:50.
