For Your Information

Mrs. Varnado’s Classroom Procedures

Communication and Notes (Please check daily!!)

All notes and papers including lunch money should be sent from home to school
and school to home through the “homework folder”. Daily work completed in
class will also be sent home in this folder. Please remove all papers daily
and return this folder to school each day.

Lunch Money

Lunch money should be sent in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, lunch
number, teacher name, and amount written on the front.

Graded Work

Graded work will be sent home weekly in the “graded work folder”. Please
sign the form and return the folder on the following day. Graded work is
yours to keep.

Behavior Communication

If your child misbehaves in a way that requires that you be contacted, I may
send a note in the homework folder, call by telephone, or send an email (if
available). Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their choices.
They are given opportunities for reflection and a problem-solving model is
used for remediation. Misbehaviors will be communicated to the parent when
reasonable problem solving strategies in the classroom have been exhausted.

Snack

Please send a healthy snack with your child every day. We will have a
working snack time.

Transportation Changes

All transportation changes must be documented and approved by the front
office. All notifications must be in writing. Please use a full sheet of
paper and include your child’s name, teacher’s name, date, nature of the
change, and your signature.

Absentee Procedure

Please send a note upon return when your child must be absent from school.
All excused absences require a doctor’s note. Your child will be given the
opportunity to make up vital missed assignments. If time is not available in
class to do so, these assignments will be sent home in the homework folder to
be completed at home within 3 days. Please contact me if more time is needed.

Visitors and Volunteers

All visitors and volunteers are required to sign in at the front office and
wear an identification badge while on campus. All visits should be
prearranged with the teacher.

Scholastic Book Orders

Book orders will be sent out monthly. Please make payment by check. The
order form and check should be returned by the due date in a sealed envelope
with your child’s name and “book order” posted on the front of the envelope.
When students place orders with Scholastic, teachers earn points that can be
used to purchase books for the classroom library. This is an important
resource in building our classroom AR library.

AR Reading

Students are given 30 minutes of AR reading time each day. This time will be
sufficient for most students to meet their AR goals each 9 weeks. If AR
books are read at home, the child can test on the book the next day in
class. Please write down the title of the book and the author, and send to
school the next day in the homework folder.
