Spelling Choices
Spelling is an important part of our Language Arts. The spelling lists are sent home on Mondays and our tests are on Thursdays. Students will now be able to select their own spelling homework, with parental guidance, from the spelling choices list. This list may be modified throughout the year. It may be beneficial to take a "pre-test" on Monday night to help determine with which words your child may need the most practice. The student will pick one assignment for Monday night and another for Tuesday night. Wednesday night should be used to review the spelling words in preparation for the test on Thursday. During class time, we will be practicing the words through different games and activities. Thank you for all of your support and cooperation.
Weekly Spelling Choices
*Select one choice for Monday night and another choice for Tuesday night.
1. Rainbow Spelling - Students write each word using the colors of the rainbow. For example they would write the first word in red, then trace it in orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
2. Magic Spelling - Student writes each word using a white crayon, then colors over the white crayon with marker to reveal the word.
3. Put the spelling words in ABC order.
4. Create a Word Find puzzle with spelling words either on graph paper or on the computer.
5. Type words on the computer, change the color, font, or style for some of them.
6. Write a story using at least 10 words.
7. Illustrate spelling words and label each picture.
8. Fancy Spelling - write words and decorate each letter in a unique way.
9. Sky Writing - using two fingers, write the spelling words in the air, using large, controlled motions.
10. Write serious or silly sentences with each word.
11. Sort the words according to spelling pattern using a tree map.
12. Write questions with each word.
