Coco’s Kids News
November 9, 2009
A good time was had by all who attended our second Lyon Lagniappe.
The children had some wonderful art work on display in the hall. They are
always so proud to show their parents what they have done. The weather was
perfect and we had a great turn out. We enjoyed all the activities and
seeing families have fun together. If you haven’t returned your evaluation
form please do so, we would like your feedback about the night.
Last week we tasted yellow, red, and green apples and graphed our
favorite. Most of the children liked yellow apples. Our least favorite was
the red. The best part was dipping the apples in caramel, yummy.

READING: This week we will continue our unit titled food and begin our
lesson on Thanksgiving. Our focus book is Our Special Sweet Potato Pie. We
will read fiction and non fiction books on food and Thanksgiving. We will
identify upper and lower case Cc, its sound (hard /c/ as in cat) in
isolation and in context, sentences, the high frequency word "have" and word
family “an”. We are learning to summarize and make inferences. We are
working hard to read words by sounding them out. One of the true tests of
a child’s understanding of phonics, reading and writing is the applying of
the skills learned.
MATH: The skills we will cover this week are:
* numbers and sets
* graphing
* patterning
* calendar skills
SOCIAL This week we will study food, Native Americans, Pilgrams,
LIVING: and Thanksgiving.
