Students' Spelling Choices

These are students' Spelling Choice Activities. Put a heading on your paper and title it with the activity name. If an activity has an asterisk (*) next to it, please get a parent signature on your paper to indicate the activity was completed.
 
1. Rainbow Words - Write each of your words in at least 3 colors (outline words with the colors).
 
2. ABC order - Write your words in alphabetical order.
 
3. Reversed ABC Words - Write your words in ABC order-backwards!
 
4. Backwards Words - Write your words forwards, then backwards.
 
5. Staircase Words - Write your words using graph paper to make it look like a staircase.
 
6. Scrambled Words - Write your words, then write them again with the letters mixed-up.
 
7. Train Words - write the entire list end-to-end as one long word, using different colored crayon/ink for different words.
 
8. Other handed - Write all your words with your other hand.
 
9.   * Cheerful Words - Pretend you are a cheerleader and call out your words!
 
10. * Popsicle Words - Make words using popsicle sticks.

11. * Good-Clean Words - Write your words using shaving cream on a counter or some place that can be cleaned safely.

12. * Dirty Words - Write your words in mud or sand.
13. * Flashwriting - In a darkened room, use a flashlight to draw letters in the air.
 
14. X Words - Write two words having one common letter so they criss-cross.

15. Ransom Words - Write your words by cutting out letters in a newspaper or magazine and glue on loose leaf paper.
 
16. Picture Words - Draw a picture and hide your words in your picture.
 
17. Telephone Words - Translate your words into numbers from a telephone key pad.
 
18. Secret Agent Words - Number the alphabet from 1-26, then convert your words to a number code.
 
19. Double Secret Agent Words- Number the alphabet from 26-1, then convert each word to a number code.
20. Words & Meanings - Write the meaning for each spelling word.
 
21. Silly Sentences - Use all your words in silly sentences.
 
22. Parts of Speech- Write each word, then write what part of speech each word is. (Use a dictionary if needed.)
 
23. * Backwriting - Using your finger, draw each letter on a partner's back, having the partner say the word when completed.
 
24. Antonyms/Synonyms- Write each word, then next to each, write an antonym or synonym for the word.
25. Creative story - Write a short story using all of your words.
