What We Are Doing This Week:
Language Arts
We will explore holiday traditions throughout the world through some amazing webquests. We will be completing units: 2nd grade Muggie Maggie-about what happens with mix-ups when learning cursive handwriting & 3rd grade- about the true holiday meaning in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and finishing any unfinished work. We will do Speller’s Choice in class this week (due on Thursday/no test this week). Please continue to review all skills previously taught this semester. We will need to continue to write in complete sentences in all of our work (even in our notebooks) and have neat handwriting…Everything will need to be written in cursive for the remainder of the year. (Please help with practicing this at home). Please continue to read nightly, Reading Bingo Card is due Wednesday, December 16.
Math
We will continue to use problem solving strategies and reasoning while looking at different mathematical problems. We will review all strategies learned this semester. We will work on completing our unit on Mathematical Strategies and number concepts. Continue to use some of the links on our webpage to help in the practicing of these math strategies, adding subtracting & place value; and now with multiplication & division facts. Flash cards are quite helpful, too.
Important Information:
•Please check out our BLOG (The Gifted Gabber) on our class website. Let me know what you think! http://teacherweb.com/LA/LyonElementary/RWalker
•Reading Log/Reading Bingo/Reading Counts – continue to read for 15-30 minutes nightly & record in your Reading Log as well as filling in the Reading Bingo card that is in HW folder due Wednesday, December 16. Read Reading Counts books and take RC tests in homerooms to gain points for our RC goals/rewards.
•Project Lyon – Here at Lyon, we are starting a food drive for the Covington Food Bank. They are in need of food at this time of year. What an excellent way to show our support for those in need in our community. Please donate what you can.
•Starting in January students will be copying down their own homework assignments. They will be responsible of this task. To double check, you can always go to our class web page to make sure assignments are accurate. (It will basically be the same as Fall semester.)
•Speller’s Choice – will now be worth 5 points and a minimum of two 1 point activities are to be done.
