Return all tests with the Cub Roar each Thursday after viewing the papers & signing the front of the envelope. Send lunch money in an envelope with the amount & your child's name upon it. Each child received their lunch number. Please, use it on the envelopes, also. Review your child's conduct folder each night & initial it for me. Do HW each night with your child. Use the filler paper that I provided in the folder. Send the HW back to me in the FRONT of the folder. The Transportation Hot Line is open Monday~Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM 809-2600 Call for any bus issues that you might have. Please send in Box Tops for Education, Campbell's labels, and Community Coffee UPCs. These items will help fund to supplies, playground equipment, etc. for our school. HOMEWORK/CONDUCT folders< Daily folder> Homework/Conduct binders will go home each afternoon. Please review and sign your child's conduct grade each day. HOMEWORK - Please assist your child with homework to see that it is correct and neat. It is important for your child to establish good work habits. And let me know if your child is taking more than 15 or 20 minutes to finish. READING: Practice vocabulary & Readiness words each night with your child. GETTING HOME: If your child's daily routine of getting home changes at any time during the school year, please let me know, in writing. This will ensure your child's safety and well-being. Students will not be allowed to deviate from the routine, unless they have written permission. CUB ROAR - Every Wednesday the CUB ROAR will go home with flyers from the community along with information about school events and activities. Weekly test papers and classwork are also included. GRADES - There are no grades given in T-1. However, there is a check list of skills that will be sent home each 9 week period. LIBRARY BOOKS - Students can check out a library book weekly. Students are encouraged to check out a Reading Counts book. Students may purchase a pencil for .25 cents from our new pencil machine. GENERAL INFORMATION: * Money: Please send money to school in a labeled envelope. It should have your child's name, my name, and the money's purpose. * Instructional Fee: The $10.00 fee will be used to buy special materials that will make for unique learning experiences. * Breakfast and Lunch: Prices have increased for those who pay to eat. It is now .60 for breakfast full price and .30 for reduced breakfast. Lunch is $1.00 for full price and .40 for reduced. Extra milk is .50. Please put money in a labeled envelope with your child's name and lunch number. It is helpful if money is collected by the month or week. * Labels: Please write your child's name on all materials and supplies. This includes coats, sweaters and book bags. CONFERENCES: You can call the school office at 892-0869, send an e-mail or write me a note, to arrange an appointment day and time. Our communication plays a huge role in your child's success at school! It lends importance to education and links us. DISCIPLINE: *Self Control and *Focus are of the utmost importance in order for me to provide a place where all students can learn. You can check your child's daily behavior in their daily folder. Please take a few minutes to review, initial, and discuss as necessary. This is a GREAT tool for us to communicate. I look at this folder every day, so put any notes or money envelopes in the Homework/Conduct folder. MATH: Students will practice and learn math skills by working individually and together. We use hands on materials/objects, discovery and problem solving. A variety of programs will be used during instructional time. Everyday Counts and Math Investigations are all programs which promote higher order thinking and problem solving. Reviewing math facts at home (flash cards, workbooks, etc.) will give your child an edge on becoming a strong problem solver and math student. SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: These subjects provide the principal context within which students can integrate major understandings, skills and interests. They will also be asked to draw upon past experiences. Experiments, problem solving skills and art will be utilized for learning and documentation. COMPUTER INSTRUCTION: We are very fortunate to have a computer lab and computers in our classroom. Various math, language and problem solving programs will provide fun practice in all areas of the curriculum. We will work in Lyon's Computer LAB on Friday afternoons. PHYSICAL EDUCATION: P.E. will be taught by both the classroom teacher and Dr. Roth, who specializes in P.E. Your child needs to wear appropriate clothes i.e. tennis shoes and shorts or pants, on Mondays and Tuesdays. MUSIC: Music will be taught every Friday by Mrs. Sykes, who is specially trained in Music, and will be used daily in the classroom. ART: We will be doing many art projects throughout the year that will require various types of materials. Students will be notified ahead of time as to what they will need for each art project. We will also have formal art instruction each Wednesday with an Art Teacher. Please send an old shirt to school for your child to wear when we are painting. Let me know if you would like to be an Art Mom and work on projects with the class! WRITING: Students will complete daily writing assignments. Assignments will consist of various writing tasks that begin simple and progress toward the creative writing of stories. Throughout the year we will learn the steps of the writing process. You will see more of this as the year progresses. SUPPLIES: A list of supplies needed for Transitional First Grade can be found on our website. It is important to label all supplies. Some supplies are needed for special activities, and notices will go home at the appropriate time. Most supplies will not last all year and may need to be replenished as needed.
