This week we are learning: Language Arts We are going to take a break from our basal reader to explore children’s literature with a Christmas theme. We will read a different story each day. We will use these stories to review skills that have previously been taught. We will identify main idea & supporting details of a story. We will sequence story events. We will categorize nouns & verbs. We will break words apart by their syllables. See the special vocabulary & spelling section with holiday words. Use these words for homework this week! All materials come from the Guaranteed Parish Curriculum and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures Collection. Math We will continue to explore solid figures and relate them to plane shapes. We will continue to gather data, sort it and represent the data in different ways. We will continue to review addition and subtraction. Our math lessons are part of the Guaranteed Parish Curriculum. Our math book is published by Scott Foresman. We also use the programs Everyday Counts, Today’s Math and Investigations. Social Studies We will continue our exciting unit on Christmas Around the World. We will explore the traditions and customs that different countries participate in to celebrate the holiday season. This week we will visit Italy, Holland and the United States. Our units are taken from the state’s curriculum along with some units that correspond with the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures Collection.
