This week we are learning:
Language Arts
We will begin Unit 3 in our Basal Reader, “Let’s Connect”. Our weekly theme
is “Being Friends.” Our story this week is “Kate’s Game.” We will explore
the importance friendship. We will identify main idea & supporting details
of a story. We will sequence story events. We will learn what a verb is and
continue to identify & categorize nouns. We will review words with the long
a sound in spelling. All materials come from the Guaranteed Parish
Curriculum and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures Collection.
Math
We will practice sorting objects by different characteristics. We will
collect data and visually represent our information. We will focus on fact
families this week as we continue to review our addition & subtraction
strategies. Our math lessons are part of the Guaranteed Parish Curriculum.
Our math book is published by Scott Foresman. We also use the programs
Everyday Counts, Today’s Math and Investigations.
Social Studies
We are beginning a two week unit on Thanksgiving. We will learn about
Pilgrims, Native Americans, the founding of the Plymouth Colony and factors
that made life difficult for early Americans. Our units are taken from the
state’s curriculum along with some units that correspond with the
Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures Collection.
