What Are We Learning?

                       What’s Happening in Room 301

                        Week of December 7 - 11

Reading: We have now completed the entire reader for our first semester, and
we won’t begin the next reader until after Christmas. Consequently, for the
next two weeks, each student will work on creating and illustrating a book
that will be published in hard-bound copy form in early spring. You may
remember that this was a school-wide project last year, and we have selected
to do it again this year. While this is quite a large undertaking, the
results are well worth the effort. The completed books are very special and
will be treasured more with each passing year.

Language: Students will review present, past, and future-tense verbs and
their correct usage in sentences.

Math: Students will continue the unit on multiplication. Students will
practice multiplying with 0, 1, 3, and 4, and they will make flash cards in
class to use for memorizing the fact families. Encourage them to memorize
these fact families by studying their flash cards nightly.

Spelling: Unit 17 – Words commonly used in children’s writing

Science: Students will continue working on several projects related to our
recent study of animals. Now that they have read their animal books,
students will begin writing a report on the animal of their choice during
science class. The animal poster projects assigned for homework last week
are due no later than Wednesday. Explicit directions for this project were
sent home last week and are bradded into the homework folders.
