What Are We Learning?

                       What’s Happening in Room 301

                        Week of November 9 - 13

Reading:  This week’s story is entitled “Saving the Dunes.”  It is a 
nonfiction article about a fourth grade class in Margate, New Jersey, who 
attempts to save and restore the dunes along their coastline.  Ask your child 
to retell the story to you later in the week.  This week’s skill is analyzing 
cause and effect relationships.  

Vocabulary Words:  	preserve      rainfall       restore       suffered 

Language:  Students will identify and use past-tense verbs correctly in 
sentences.

Math:  Students will continue their study of telling time.  This week’s 
skills will include reading and interpreting schedules and calculating 
elapsed time.

Spelling:  Unit 14 – Words containing /j/ and /s/ sounds

	large           since		price		page		ice 
	dance		pencil          slice		place		city

Science:  Students will continue the second unit, a study of animals and 
their characteristics.  This week’s lesson will include identifying the 
characteristics of amphibians, mammals, spiders, and insects.


Reminder:  Our Veterans Day program will be on Wednesday, November 11th, at 
8:30 AM in the gym.  Students should wear a clean white shirt with their 
uniform pants or shorts for this performance.  Hope to see you there!
