My name is Gina Penn and this is my second year teaching at Madisonville.
I have taught first grade for 4 years in St. Tammany parish and absolutely
love teaching this age group! I received my Bachelors' degree from Louisiana
Tech and my Master's Degree from LSU. My husband Chad and I have been
married for 6 years and we have a three year old daughter named Avery.
Like our students, I continue to learn. I have been trained in
Kagan stategies, Promethean software, Project Read, Write from the Beginning,
Thinking Maps, Everyday Counts, and Responsive Classroom; all of which assist
me with meeting the needs of a variety of learning styles and abilities
within the classroom.
I love seeing the smiling faces of my first graders each morning. First
grade is my favorite grade because of the students' enthusiasm for learning
and the tremendous growth that the students show over the course of the
school year. This is a "big" year in terms of the amount and difficulty
level of academics, but it is incredibly rewarding to see the children be
able to reach these benchmarks!

Treat: candles, picture frames, things that help me relax!
Splurges: shopping at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for my new house
Hobby: Watching HGTV to get decorating ideas!
Activity: Going swimming with my daughter, Avery
Teacher moment: watching my students read and seeing them LOVE it!
I want all of my students to feel special, loved, and important.
I want them to learn as much as possible this year in an exciting,
educational environment.
