Well, our first Art Moms/Dads week was a great success. Now it is time to be looking forward to the next one. It will be Thursday, December 10-Wednesday, December 16. We will be focusing on the works of Ansel Adams, photographer. My hope is to take students around campus and allow them to take two or three digital photographs. We definitely need help for this one! By dividing the class into two or three groups, we can give each student individualized instruction in using the camera. More help will be needed in printing the photographs. We will print black and white images on regular paper to keep the cost low. Emails to follow....

We are having a great week with Art Moms in the art room studying the works of Fritz Hundertwasser. It's not too late to come join in the fun. Check the schedule on this site and come when you can.

We are now preparing for our first Art Moms/Dads project. We will be creating projects based on the work of Friedensreich Hunderwasser. Please look at the schedule posted on this site to see when you can help. If you would like to teach the lesson, you can get information from me. We have all the materials needed for this project. There will be some work requied after the lesson to prepare the students' work for hanging. If you are not able to teach or help out with the lesson, you can volunteer to help with hanging the work. I've made a power point on this artist which is on my computer in the artroom and hope to have it on this site soon. We will be doing the projects the week of October 19-23. I hope most of you will be able to participate. Thanks for all you do.

We will be working on projects for the fair with second and third graders this week coming (Sept 14-18) Second graders will be gluing Mardi Gras beads to cardboard fish. We still need more Mardi Gras beads and 12 inch long fish cut from cardboard. See me if you need a pattern.
Third graders will be creating an abstract collage from cardboard. We have all the supplies we need for this project.
Joins us in the art room if you can help with either of these projects. My schedule is on this site.

A parent has brought in lots of cardboard for the third grade fair project. We need parent volunteers to cut the cardboard into 8" x 10" pieces. You will need to bring your own box cutter. Stop by the art room and I'll let you know where everything is located.

Welcome Art Moms and Dads,
We are so happy that you have decided to join our great art program at Madisonville Elementary.
I will be contacting you through email during the year and you can reach me through the school email address that is listed on the home page of this webpage or just drop by the art room which is located in the old first grade wing in room 102.
We are planning four major projects this year, but please feel free to come and observe your child's class at any time. My schedule is also listed on this site and you can easily find your child's teacher there and their scheduled art time. If you would like to help out in the art room on a regular basis, let me know. There is always paper to cut, brushes to wash, or pencils to sharpen.
Our first major project is the St. Tammany Parish Fair booth which will be set up the end of September. Kyle Schellhaas has build us a frame for a lighthouse and we are applying paper mache' to it. Other projects include a small sculpture made by third graders using recycled items (plastic forks, aluminium cans, paper cups, etc.) Since we will be using spray paint to finish these sculputures, no styrofoam items will be used. Spray paint melts styrofoam!! Some second graders will be creating a fish collage on cardboard using mardi gras beads. We will also be making a rainbow using flip-flops. You can see past Fair Booth projects and this year's theme at "Fair Booth" at this site.
Mrs. Spencer has given us permission to use room 109 as a work room, so our big projects will be housed there. Presently, we are collecting "trash" for the third grade project and Mardi Gras beads for the second grade project. If you can contribute, you can put them there. Remember, no stytofoam.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and know we are going to have a good year.
