English II Lesson Plans

THE DUE DATES AND ASSIGNMENTS ARE TENTATIVE AND CAN BE CHANGED WITHOUT ONLINE NOTICE BUT WILL ALWAYS BE COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM VIA VERBAL COMMUNICATION AND POSTED ON THE BOARD.

OPTIONAL- BONUS VOCAB ASSIGNMENT HAS BEEN ADDED UNDER ENGLISH II DOCUMENTS. MUST BE TURNED IN ON OR BEFORE LAST MONDAY OF EACH 9 WEEKS.

Week of March 13:  WEDNESDAY- VOCAB LIST 3 TEST;


                                FRIDAY- NO SCHOOL- END OF 3RD 9 WEEKS!


Monday- ; “Introduction to Poetry” by Billy Collins and “Out, Out” by Robert Frost.

Summarize each stanza and identify 3 examples of personification and label theme


Tuesday- “O Captain, My Captain” analysis- identify the symbolism of the captain, prize, ship,

and trip; one paragraph summary, label tone. “Beat, Beat Drums” label tone, explain the

symbolism of the drums, and summarize the poem. Compare and contrast the poem with “O

Captain, My Captain” in terms tone, literary elements, subject matter, format, etc. and review


Wednesday- VOCAB 3 TEST “Dirge for Two Veterans”- summarize each stanza, 2 examples of personification

and tone; Compose a self-metaphor


Thursday- "Charge of the Light Brigade" Analysis; Journal- "Explain what this poem says about war using at least 2 quotes." 


Friday- NO SCHOOL!

Wednesday- finish "Rainy River" and review for test tomorrow

Friday- Give Night books and begin chapter 1; chapters 1-2 are due Monday
