*** THE FOLLOWING WORK IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN THE MATERIAL THAT IS COVERED AND DUE EVERY DAY. HAVE A SSR BOOK IN CLASS EVERY DAY. WHEN YOU ARE COMPLETED YOUR ELA WORK, YOU SHOULD BE READING THAT NOVEL. ENJOY YOUR SUMMER!!! INCOMING HONORS EIGHTH GRADERS YOU HAVE ASSIGNED READING!! April 18th, 2012 Dear Parent/Guardian: As summer approaches, the eighth grade ELA teachers at Mandeville Junior High have been very busy selecting a book for our summer reading program. We have worked diligently to provide a book which reflects the interests and reading levels of our students. Over the summer, each eighth grade honors ELA student will be required to read one novel from the list below. Students will be responsible for reading the novel and being prepared to discuss it by the first day of school, Wednesday, August 8th, 2012. Language Arts teachers will assess student reading of the novel on Friday, August 24th, 2012. The summer reading book will also be used to complete a project during the first quarter and in writing lessons throughout the year. Select one of the following novels to read: After the Rain by N. Mazer Scorpions by W. Myers Murder on the Orient Express by A. Christie Our local bookstore and libraries are aware of the required novels. Also, you may want to search online for discounted new or used copies of the novels (such as Book Rack in Mandeville). You will need a copy of the book for assignments in class, so please make arrangements. As our society continues to make demands on us, we hope you will agree that strong, independent, confident readers provide the basis for success in all endeavors. We thank all parents and guardians for their support. As we all read together, we wish you and your children a summer of exciting and pleasurable reading adventure. Enjoy your summer! Sincerely, Eighth Grade Honors English Language Arts Teachers
