What is FIRST Lego League?

FIRST Lego League - A Robotics Competition Team

In February, 2013, Mandeville Junior High began attempting to organize a
FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Competition Team for the 2013-2014 school
year.

After getting lots of student interest for participation, we increased the
number to two possible FLL teams for the Fall 2013.

Tracey Martinez and Trish Picone wrote a grant which earned funding to supply
initial purchases and expenses for the two teams. This grant was graciously
provided by Chevron.

Each team is limited to ten participants and each member will have a $35 fee
to cover additional expenses for the program (including color sensors,
additional robot kits for more hands-on participation, etc). We are exploring
the possibility of alternates and how they could play a part in the
2014 FLL teams.

You do NOT have to be enrolled in the GTT program to participate. Decisions
regarding team formation have not yet been made. It is the intent for each
team to be comprised of males and females, 7th and 8th graders, and GTT and
non-GTT students.

All students interested in being on the Fall 2014 MJH FLL team should submit
an application to Mr. Holly or Mrs. Martinez no later than Thursday,
September 18, 2014. Try-outs will be Monday, 9/22 and Tuesday 9/23. Team
decisions will be announced on Wednesday, 9/24 and teams will meet every
Thursday and Friday beginning on Thursday, 9/25. See application (on
Applications Page) and expectations for more details.

If parents or guardians (with experience with robots, programming, or general
engineering) wish to assist a team as a mentor, please contact Tracey
Martinez at tracey.martinez@stpsb.org or 985-626-4428 or Jon Holly at
jonathan.holly@stpsb.org . Each team needs their own mentor.
