October 5th-9th, 2009
Students in grades K-6 were introduced to the “Read League” characters with a
short animated video. These are the characters created to promote our
reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut called BOOK IT! Students in
grades 1-7 also filled out a Reading Interest Profile to give me some
background information concerning their interest in reading.
1st Grade A and B
Students completed the activity “Keys to Reading Success” in which they had
to identify good and bad book behaviors. They also checked out books.
Grade 2
Students completed the worksheet "Wait a Second!" to practice putting words
in alphabetical order and to help understand that fiction books are put on
the bookshelves in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. Students
also checked out books and were given the opportunity to take Accelerated
Reading tests using the library computers.
Grades 3-7
While taking turns checking out books, students completed the “Reading
Interest Profile” and worked on any activities that were not completed and we
had not checked. Students were also given the opportunity to take
Accelerated Reading tests using the library computers.
PreK and Kindergarten
We talked about their trip to the library and their visitors to school this
week. I showed them pictures of different kinds of police that they might
not see often: Bicycle Patrol Officers, Motorcycle Police and Mounted
Police, and officers who use police dogs. We read the story “Clifford, the
Firehouse Dog” by Norman Bridwell. Kindergarten students also viewed the
online book “The Fire Station” by Robert Munsch.
