January 4th-8th, 2010
Each week students are given an opportunity to take Accelerated Reading tests
using the library computers.
1st Grade A and B
Students completed the activity “What Is An Illustrator” in which they had
to draw and color pictures to go with some sentences in a mini book. They
also checked out books.
Grade 2
Students completed the worksheet "Biographies and Autobiographies" in which
they had to read some book titles and determine whether it was a biography or
autobiography. Students also checked out books.
Grade 3
We read the worksheet "There Are So Many Books!" and then completed "Choose
Your Books Wisely". They also began the worksheet "Name That Book" in which
they had to read a book description, make a title and draw a cover to go with
it. Students also checked out books.
Grade 4
Students completed the worksheet "Musical Books" in which they had to arrange
fiction books in alphabetical order so they know where to find them on the
shelves. Students also checked out books.
Grade 5
Students began the worksheet "Extended Searches" to help them when doing
research. By selecting extended references, they can view additional topics
related to their search query. Students also checked out books.
Grade 6
Students completed the worksheet "Can You Tell a Book by Its Cover?" in which
they had to match a book title with its genre or description. Students also
started the worksheet "Putting Call Numbers in Order." Students also checked
out books. They were asked to check out fiction Accelerated Reader books so
that they can complete a Book Review on the book they read.
Grade 7
Students helped our 1st Grade B students in computer lab. They helped the
1st graders log into Accelerated Reader and take an AR test on the book "The
Cat That Went Woof". The students also began preparing to write their
autobiography by answering some questions on the worksheet "Your
Autobiography". Students were also given the opportunity to check out books.
PreK
We read the books "The Snow Lambs" by Debi Gliori and "Emily and the
Snowflake" by Jan Wahl.
Kindergarten
We read the book "A Place Called Kindergarten" by Jessica Harper. Students
have completed their "practice" book titled "Taking Care of a Book", so we
read them in class and the students were able to take them home in a plastic
bag. If their practice books are returned on time and in good condition, the
student will be able to start checking out a REAL library book.
