Homework: Homework is the key to being successful in algebra. All assignments are posted daily, and it is the student’s responsibility to make sure all missed work is completed. It is important to spend each night practicing the algebra skill learned in class that day. If no written assignment was issued, review notes, rework example problems or read the next section to be covered. Use friends as resources. Work together. REMEMBER YOU HAVE HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT AND IT IS PART OF YOUR GRADE! All problems must be written, followed by the necessary work and a boxed answer. It is important for each student to have some sort of an idea if he/she is doing the assignment correctly, before entering the classroom. With this in mind, no homework assignment is complete until the student checks the odd assigned problems in the back of the text. If a student has worked an odd problem incorrectly, then he/she should write the correct answer in red ink, boxed, next to the incorrect answer. An attempt to find his/her mistake should also be made. All answers to the even problems will be given in class and should be written down. Failure to write correct even or odd answers will result in lost homework points. All correct answers should have a check mark next to them. Homework grade: Visual check. · When a visual check of homework is conducted students will either receive 10 points, 5 points or zero points. If a student does 100% of the assignment then he/she will receive 10 points. If the student does less than 100% but more than or equal to 50% then he/she will receive 5 points. Any attempt which is less than 50% will result in a zero. Visual checks will be graded by effort and completion. Homework grade: Quiz · A problem(s) will be placed on the board similar to the previous night’s homework with emphasis on problems previously worked in class. Students will be given approximately 5 minutes to work the problem(s) and come up with a correct solution. Five points will be given for a correct answer and 3 points will be given as partial credit for minor mistakes. Zero points will be given for any incorrect answer concluded from mistakes determined not to be minor. One problem per quiz will be dropped. Make-ups for missed quiz problems will only be given after the drop is used.
