V. Grading
A. The standard parish grading scale applies.
B. You will be given a record sheet every nine weeks on which to record assignments and grades. A computer printout of grades will be posted regularly (by ID number), but it is recommended that you also keep a record sheet in order to have a day-to-day accounting of your average.
C. A total point system will be used for determining grades.
D. Homework will be worth 5 points. You will receive 5 points if the assignment is
completed, 3 points if at least half is completed, and 1 point if less than half is
completed. (There will be no 2’s or 4’s given for homework.) The teacher’s decision as to how many points you receive is final! Homework is checked daily for effort, not accuracy. Each assignment must be legible and have:
1. The page number & assigned problems labeled
2. All problems copied (diagrams drawn where applicable) and work shown
If odd numbered problems are assigned, they should be checked in the back of the book before coming to class. If wrong, the correct answer should be written in ink and you should attempt to find your mistake before coming to class. Correct even numbered problems when discussed in class. Failure to do so will result in a loss of points. Homework is your practice time. It is of utmost importance that you do your homework every night!!
E. Weekly problem sets will be assigned every Friday and will be due the following . Friday. These will usually be ACT and/or SAT practice problems.
Each problem set has 10 questions and is worth 20 points. These will be collected and ARE checked for accuracy. Each question will be graded as
follows:
2 pts. – Work shown and answer correct
1 pt. - Work shown, answer incorrect
0 pts. - Answer correct, no work shown
My policy is to help students on these problems if asked before the due date
and there is evidence that the student has attempted the problem.
F. Chapter tests are usually worth 100 points, quizzes will vary. Both are
announced in advance. .
G. Chapter tests, quizzes, projects, homework, problem sets = 80% of grade
Nine weeks exam = 20% of grade
VI. Assignments
A. Except for projects, all work for this class must be done in PENCIL! Work done in ink will not be graded. Erasable pen is not acceptable.
B. Keep all notes, handouts, quizzes, etc. in chronological order.
C. Make Up Policy: You must have your blue absentee slip in order to receive credit for any make-up work. Assignments given on your last day of class should be turned in the day that you return. Except in extenuating circumstances, all make up work should be completed within one week. It is your responsibility to determine what needs to be made up and to get it done within that week. However, if a student only misses the review day before a test or the day of the test, then the student will be expected to take the test on the day that he/she returns. Missing assignments will be listed on the computer printout as a “0” until completed.
