Dear NHS Parents, Students, and Community Friends,

The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for our students and teachers.  The opportunity to start school with an unblemished academic record is an excellent motivation for students to work hard and to stay focused.  Our teachers have planned well and were very well prepared for these first days of school.  Anticipating another year of high academic achievement as well as increased parental and student involvement, the 2009-2010 school year promises to be one of the best in our twenty-six year history.

St. Tammany Parish is now providing an excellent communication tool for every parent, grandparent, and guardian of students in the school district.  When you sign up on the Emergency Alert System, it will alert you by phone, text, or email whenever there is emergency information about the schools selected.  As a parent and a grandparent, I am very appreciative for this service which the St. Tammany Parish School District is now providing.  Parents can sign-up on the St. Tammany Parish School Board website.

The Panther football team will be playing in the Northshore Jamboree which will be hosted at Slidell High School this year.  Games begin at 6:30 p.m. on August 28th. The first regular season game will be played on September 4th,  at NHS.  The Northshore High School Open House will be held at 6:30 p.m. on September 8thInterims for the first quarter will be issued on September 10th, and signed interims will be returned the next day.  Northshore High School’s Freshmen and Sophomore Information Night will take place on September 14th, in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m.  The Junior and Senior Information Night will take place on September 21st.  This year’s Homecoming football game will be played on September 25th, and the Homecoming Dance will be held on September 26th, at the Harbor Center.  First quarter exams will begin on October 5th, and report cards will be issued on October 15th.

Thank you for your support and involvement with Northshore High School as we strive to provide an outstanding educational experience for our students.  As our students often say, “We are different; we are better; we are Northshore High School.” This is the school of academic choice.

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                        Michael R. Peterson, Ph.D.
