What are the State of Louisiana Graduation Requirements? I, II, or JROTC.......1.5 units Health Ed......................... .5 units Electives...........................8 units Total Minimum for Graduation........23 units Each student shall develop with the input of his family, a Five-Year Educational Plan. Such a plan shall include a sequence of courses which are consistant with the student's stated goals for one year after graduation. In addition, student shall meet state diploma requirements and, if applicable, TOPS scholarship requirements. The course requirements for the career cluster shall consist of the following: 1. At least 6 or more units from a chosen cluster 2. 4 units must be primary units. 3. 2 units must be related courses, with one of these being a computer technology class. 4. Courses should be selected to prepare a student for a postsecondary education and/or career. Parents and students are responsible for ensuring that they meet graduation, career cluster, GEE 21, diploma endorsements, TOPS,and post-secondary requirements. What are diploma endorsements? Based on the student's choices for classes and the successful completion of these courses, a student has the opportunity to earn academic endorsements, career technical endorsements, and articulated credit upon graduation. The students receive this information during their years at NHS. Students must pass the ENGLISH and MATH components, PLUS pass either SCIENCE OR SOCIAL STUDIES component. This is the Louisians Tuition Opportunity Program for Students. If a student takes and passes the 17.5 units of the CORE curriculum of TOPS and earns a 2.5 gpa in that core (on a 4.0 scale), the state will pay for the tuition of that child when he enters a Louisiana state college. Be sure to contact the university of your choice to make sure your child has the recommended requirements. GPA is usually determined on a 4.0 scale. See the scholarships page on this website. Please understand that it is UP TO THE PARENT AND THE STUDENT to research what scholarships are available and what you might qualify for.
