Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!!!
Also, here are a few reading strategies to keep in mind when reading with
your child. When your child comes to a hard word or makes a mistake, remind
them of the following:
1. Start over and point to the words, make the words match.
2. Look at the pictures.
3. Say, "Try that again."
4. Say, "Read the sentence again and get your mouth ready for the tricky
word." (Make the inital sound.)
5. Ask: Does it look right?
6. Ask: Does that sound right? What would make it sound right?
7. Ask: What would make sense?
8. Skip the word and read to the end of the sentence to get a clue of what
the word is.
9. Find a small part of the word ("chunk") that you know and putt he word
together.
10. Look for clues in the next sentence.
