| Reinforce the skills that your child is being exposed to at school, by
doing fun hands-on learning activities at home! Help your child to practice
writing his/her own name by spreading some shaving cream onto a cookie sheet
and allowing him/her to use one finger to write the letters. Please remind
your child to use lowercase letters where appropriate. See if your child
can show you a pattern with toys, different types of candy, cereal or
noodles. Give him/her a "microphone" (a banana, a wooden spoon.....) and
request a "concert" of songs learned at school thus far: "The Number
Rock", "The Days of the week", "The months of the year", or any topic or
seasonal song. Please read to your child daily!!! Reasearch shows, that the
#1 predictor of how well your child will be at reading, is how often he/she
has been read to. The children have learned so many things thus far. I am
looking forward to encouraging them to learn a bit more everyday!! I know
that you will do the same.
Thanks!
