ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: Rhyming Words - Rhyming words sound the same at the end. Syllable Blending - A student is given a word broken apart into syllables. The students puts the syllable togethers to say the word. Syllable Segmentation - A student is given a word. The student must break the word apart into its' individual syllables. For example, apple would be "ap-ple." We will start practicing by using our names and then move to words. Syllable Delteion - Students break a word apart into its' individual syllables. I ask the students what happens when we delete one syllable. For example, the syllables for rainbow are rain-bow. When we delete the syllable "rain," the new word is "bow." Characters - Characters are people or animals that we see throughout the story. When reading books at home, see if your child can name the characters. Setting - Setting is where the story takes place. when reading books at home, see if your child can name the setting. MATH: One to One Correspondence - Students must have the same number of items as the number that is listed. Graphs - We will be creating simple graphs. Our first graph is Do you like pumpkin pie? Patterns - We will start with simple AB patterns. See if your child can make simple AB patterns using body movements or things around the house. Calendar - Everyday, we review our days of the weeks and months of the year. Ask your child to sing the song we sing during Calendar Time. We practice yesterday was, today is, tomorrow will be. We also review counting to 20. Numbers - Please review numbers 1 - 20,espicially 11 - 20. SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Our new unit is Thanksgiving. During this unit, we will complete our study of pumpkins. We will study Indains and learn about Thanksgiving. We will also discuss the food pyramid and healthy eating. We will create a healthy Thanksgiving meal.
