The primary focus of this unit is to increase the students’ awareness of the season of summer. Students will be introduced to various summer activities such as picnics, and going to the beach. Using beach ball, sand toys, and picnic items and materials associated with the season of summer, students will participate in rhyming and letter recognition activities. Students will further develop their understanding of positional words and will weigh items using a pan balance. Students will express data through oral explanation and will participate in creating charts. The vocabulary words for this unit is over, under, through, between, beside, summer, picnic, and weigh. We will continue to discuss these school and class rules: 1. Follow the teacher’s directions. 2. Use kind words and manners. 3. Walk in line without making noise. 4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Zachary Early Learning Center has three general expectations that all students should strive to achieve. They are:
We “sing” these expectations daily, so ask your child to “sing the expectations song”.
Please read to your child daily. You will be surprised how much your child learns from listening to you read. Ask your child point to a letter, word, capital letter, period and sentence. We talk about these daily. Also, ask your child about his/her day. He/She will be so excited to “talk” to you about his/her day and what he/she is learning.
It is very important for you to review your child’s backpack daily for important notes. Please sign and return all notes as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school, email me. We want your child to have a wonderful experience of the first year of school. Thanks for sharing your child with us!
