OBJECTIVE:  This course is a classroom-based, comprehensive guidance and career exploration course. It is designed to help reduce dropout rates for both high school and post-secondary education and training by helping students learn the value of education, to help increase the matriculation rates of college, and help students acquire the skills necessary to successfully make life transitions from middle school to high school.  Some study and work will be required; however the amount of work will be limited to enable students time to work on more rigorous subjects.

GRADING:  Class attendance is important since each weekly test review is conducted on Wednesdays.  Weekly tests will be given on Thursday.  Each nine weeks grade will be determined as follows:

 

Eight weekly tests @ 100 points           800 points                1000-930 - A

Completed homework assignments      100 points                  929-850 – B

End of the nine weeks exam                100 points                  849-740 – C

                                                      1000 points                 739-660 – D

                                                                                         659-  0   -  F

 

BONUS:  Participation in the Social Studies Fair will be counted as bonus points.  Additionally, students who miss a test without a documented excuse, or who are not satisfied with a low test score may do a research project on a topic selected by Mr. Spurlock.
