                                        November 30, 2009

Dear Parents,
Here we are at the VERY last day of November! Thanksgiving has come and
gone, and we hope you all had a wonderful holiday with lots of family time.
Now…..it’s only THREE weeks till Christmas, and that means pre-k 1 will be
ever so busy with all of their holiday cheer! Take the time to enjoy every
moment of this magical time with your little one…it’s the best!
The week we will study the letter Cc, and our new puppet friend is Curly
Caterpillar. She lives in a colorful castle in Colorado that is VERY cold!
She has a terrible cough, and Aunt Connie comes to the rescue with a cap and
cape to keep Curly warm. The boys and girls are always so excited to see
“who” jumped down from the “puppet line”…..but remember…..let them tell you
all about it on Monday! Our unit of study will be the most anticipated,
Christmas. We will begin our week in a flurry of red, green, glitter, and
attention spans in the negative numbers…..isn’t it great to be four and five??
We will make a Candy Cane “C”, pin punch Cc, paint a cute stocking, make a
candy cane out of construction paper (note all the “C”’s there), finish our
hand wreaths, and then marble paint an adorable peppermint that we will wrap
in cellophane and tie with ribbons! PHEW…..see what I mean about being busy
in pre-k 1?
In math we will move on to the number 9. Our goal is to reach 10 by
Christmas….and we are almost there!! All of our math projects will center
around lights, ornaments, gingerbread men sequencing, and even those yummy
Christmas M&M’s! We will count the days till Christmas, and watch that number
become smaller each day! Our number rhyme is “Loop and a line, that’s the way
we make a nine”. Keep practicing those number rhymes and number
recognition….our year is almost half over!!!!! Did you blink??
In social studies we will explore just where Santa lives….the North Pole.
We will discuss the difference between real reindeer, and just what Santa
does to make his nine fly. We will learn about the real meaning of the candy
cane, and just why red and green are Christmas colors. This will lead us into
our REAL meaning of Christmas, and that special birth in Bethlehem.
A big thank you to all of you that sent in “Thanksgiving goodies” for our
“snack”. We all had a great time dressed as adorable Indians….’cause they are
always WAY more fun with all of their colorful outfits….and then we thanked
God for our many blessings. I did take some really cute pics….not to worry!!
In religion we will begin our preparation for the birth of Jesus. We
will discuss advent, and how we prepare our hearts during this special season.
Little eyes are filled with wonder at this time of the year, and what we hope
to instill in our little ones is that Jesus is the meaning of Christmas.
Today the December book order goes home. The online ordering is ready to
roll….and is so easy! All orders are due Friday, December 4. If you would
like to order books for Christmas…..and want it a secret….just let me know
and I will sneak them to you!
Friday is “Camo Day”! Wear your favorite
camo…shirt….pants…..dress….bow….whatever….to pre-k!!!! We will have fun
pretending we are “blending” in with our environment all day! Camo and
Christmas…..only in pre-k!!
Pre-K has chosen CASA as our Advent Project. This is a way that we can
help children less fortunate have a happy Christmas. If you would like to
donate, please send a new, non-violent $15 (limit), unwrapped gift to the
classroom. Casa will pick up all donations December 10. Thank you!
The Pre-K Christmas Program will soon be here! All angel dresses/robes
are due in the classroom December 9. Please remember that our angels do not
need halos or wings, and they are to wear their white tights and shoes to
school on the morning of the program…..December 15. Our little boys are all
taken care of with their shepherd robes….and I must say will look ADORABLE!
Once, you drop your child off….go straight to church….you want to get a
really good seat. The program begins at 9:o0. Get those video cameras all
charged up!!!!
Our Christmas party is December 18. Santa will make a stop at OLPS and
you want to be sure he has something in that BIG RED bag of his for your
child. So…..please SNEAK a wrapped, $10 gift - TO your child, FROM Santa to
us by December 9. Put the gift in a brown paper bag with pre-k 1 on the
outside…..you can leave them in the office…and we will be sure to scoop them
up!! The children may wear Christmas shirts, tops, pants, outfits, or just
something “oh so” festive for the party. The party will begin at 10 a.m., and
dismissal is at noon - NO AFTER SCHOOL CARE! Your child can leave with you
after the party…..and all that Christmas excitement begins!!
LOTS of reminders will be coming your way in the next three weeks.
Please check the website often, and as always if you have any questions…..just
let us know!

                                                 Have a good week!
