                                             November 9, 2009

Dear Parents,
We had a great time with all of our “hands-on” activities as we reviewed
our letters, numbers, and favorite units. The boys and girls enjoyed visiting
with old puppet friends, and I got a chance to review, assess, and review some
more! Everyone is doing great! Keep reviewing letters, sounds, and
numbers….we are off and rolling!
This week our letter is Ii, and our unit of study is Indians. We will
begin our great preparation for Thanksgiving. We will be up to our earlobes
in feathers, turkeys, paint, pilgrims, and just what “being thankful” really
means. Holidays are “oh so special” in the pre-k child’s life…..and in all of
our lives too! Take time to step back and enjoy every moment as our holidays
unfold. Our new puppet friend is Inky Inchworm. He lives in an Inn where
infants, instruments, and insects make WAY too much noise….and all he can say
is “icky, icky, icky”!!! He finally meets an Eskimo named Ivan that invites
him to live in his igloo where it is nice and quiet…and they even celebrate
with ice cream! I’m thinking this story is a little crazy….but oh how much
your little ones will enjoy each and every turn of the adventures of a new
puppet! Our projects will be an “Indian I”, pin punch Ii, and then we will
paint, decorate, fringe, and glue our Indian vests and headbands. WOW…..lots
of colorful fun this week!!
In math we will move on to the number 8. Our number rhyme is, “Curve
like an S, don’t you wait, go back up and that’s an eight”. We will pin punch
8, cut out the BIG 8 and glue eight Indian feathers on the number, make sets
with M&M’s, practice our simple addition and subtraction, and even play a game
or two of number bingo. Indian feathers are great for making patterns, and we
will throw in a Pilgrim or two to the mix to really shake things up!
In social studies we will learn all about our Indian friends or Native
Americans. The boys and girls will have a great time learning about Indian
customs, dress, language, and just how important they were to the Pilgrims
when they landed in Plymouth Rock. This is always a favorite social studies
unit….so join in on all the fun!
Can you believe that we are discussing Thanksgiving, and Christmas is
clipping on our heals???? Lots of important dates and reminders will be
coming your way….so please ALWAYS check the website. If you have any
questions…..email, drop us a note….or come by!

                                                 Have a great week!
                                                 Diane and Lynda
