In third grade, we are expected to teach every subject everyday. It is
quite a transition, because in second grade they alternate science and
social studies - which takes some of the pressure off. Please be assured
that Mrs. Besselman, Mrs. Ward, and me all do the same thing. We teach the
same lessons everyday and we even test on the same days. Very rarely will
we get out of sync with each other. If we should get out of sync by a day
or two, we will correct the situation.
Please read my test suggestions:
**The spelling list will be written in your child's spelling notebook every
Friday. Start studying these words early. Do five words a night and then
it doesn't seem so overwhelming.
**Math homework is assigned nightly, except on Fridays. Look over your
child's work. We will correct it in class, but the earlier their missed
work is corrected, the better. Even if your child finishes it in class -
they must bring it home, this is not an option. (This is the case for every
homework item.)
**Social Studies and Science vocabulary knowledge is imperative. If they
don't understand the meanings of the words - the chapter is very fuzzy.
Start reviewing definitions early. Do not wait for the last minute in
these two subjects. Even for the most advanced student, this is a difficult
task.
**We prepare for our reading test everyday of the week. At home, they
should review robust vocabulary NIGHTLY. The students do not need to
memorize the definition of the words, however they must be able to put them
in a sentence.
**If a grammar workbook page is assigned please check over your child's
page. Make sure they are completing the work correctly. Just like math,
the earlier mistakes are caught the better.
**I do not want any child or parent to get stressed by the amount of work.
If you have concerns or suggestions for me - I want to hear them. My job is
100% easier when I have your support. I appreciate all of you and your hard
work. Together, we will accomplish all of our goals for your child.
Thanks,
Becca
