January 4, 2010
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a blessed holiday and enjoyed the much
needed break. It's hard to believe we are starting the second half of the
school year. We are getting ready to buckle down and get prepared for
Kindergarten. We would like to thank you for all the wonderful gifts we
received at Christmas. We are really blessed to be able to teach such a
thoughtful and giving class.
We will begin this week discussing January and our new year 2010. We will
meet our puppet for letter W, Wacky Walrus. The story goes like this… "A
woolly walrus named Wacky wore a wig and had whiskers. Wacky lives in a
wigwam and does silly things like waltzing and wiggling. Wacky has a friend
named Wiggly Worm and together they whistle, whisper, and wink. Wacky is
always playing tricks on Wacky by hiding in the weeds, wood piles, waves and
washing machine. When wacky asks Wiggly why he wanders away, Wiggly tells
Wacky that he wants a wigwam like hers. Together they make a white, woolly
wigwam for Wiggly Worm. " We will cut out letter W and add glitter for a
Winter Wonderland W, We will pin punch Ww and discuss Winter for our Unit.
This is a fun unit because the children will explore what snow looks like and
snowflakes and snowmen. This is not something we see here in Louisiana.
We will begin number 11. We will sequence and sort all kinds of things! We
will also practice all of the numbers we have covered this far. We will begin
writing also.
On Friday, we will have Wild West Day. Please allow your child to dress in
their favorite Wild West outfit. This should be a fun time!
We will need 6 wagons for our Mardi Gras Parade. Please begin gathering all
the beads, throws etc you can find and send them in. We will put them all
together in the wagons for the children to throw in the parade. The more we
have the BETTER!
Dates to remember:
January 8 Wild West Day
February 10 - Mardi Gras Parade
