Talented Art students have won a trip to the House of Blues in the French Quarter where they will tour the folk art museum and attend a performance of the origins of Jazz and Blues. I plan to combine the trip with other art activities while in New attending the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum or (weather permitting) picnicking in Jackson Square and drawing the architecture there. The field trip is Thursday, January 28th. Because our group is small I will be driving my van and am looking for one or two parents to do the same.
Happy New Year!
We will begin this semester by collaborating with Talented Theater on this year's musical production of "Alice in Wonderland". That entails painting sets, sculpting props and helping to design and make costumes. Each student has designed and submitted a scale drawing for a tall mushroom he/she will sculpt and paint. The students will work in groups, collaborate and broaden knowledge of sculpture and construction techniques, apply color theory and painting techniques to both small objects and large stage backdrops.
We will also study ceramics this semester. Students will all work on hand building techniques and will create vessels on a potter's wheel.
Additionally, each student will work on a self-directed project of his/her own choosing.
