4. Read Ch. 5- Study Guide and vocab. Plot movement discuss and Annotation skill.
5. Quiz on vocab. with sentences and Ch. 2-5 of novel. Grammar page.
WEEK 2 : 1. Short summary of plot developments. Read Ch.6-7, study guide, vocab.def/sentences.
2. Read Ch.8-9 Study Guide, vocab. Activity on character development.
3. Read Ch. 10-11- Study Guide, vocab. Handout on sub-plots.Grammar page.
4. Read Ch. 12-13 -Study Guide, vocab. define ,sentences. Grammar page.
5. Quiz on vocab and ch. 6-13. Group activity : Watch beginning of movie.
Week 3 : 1. Pre-reading handout on "Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Discuss author and time period.
2. Read short story: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and discuss setting/characters.
3. Continue reading story. Choose a character and research on NET for costume.
4. Creative writing from a Halloween"story starter": min.300 wds.
5. Watch video on either "Sleepy Hollw" or "Turn of the Screw".
Week 4 : 1. Resume novel. Read Ch. 14-16. Study Guide, vocab.define and sentences.
Discuss Honesty and Tolerance of others. Watch more of movie.
2. Read Ch. 17-20 . Study Guide and vocab. Handout on figurative language and
"voice" as writing tools. Discuss creation of a board game based on novel.
3. Read Ch.21-24. Complete Study Guide and vocab. Watch end of movie.
work on creating board game and/or design of Bly Mansion.(test grade)
4. Complete creative project and review for test on novel. Vocab. quiz.
5 . Test on The Turn of the Screw. Begin discussion of King Arthur and knights.
Week 5 : 1. Begin reading "The Green Knight" and choose your research project from:
Medieval weapons, costumes, kings, battles, or armor. Discuss feudal system.
2. Read "Morte d' Arthur" and complete handout on Arthurian Legend.
3. Read excerpts from "Once and Future King" and watch video.
4. Work on research project in class on NET. Use 2 other sources(provided).
5 . Complete project (test grade)and watch end of video.
Week 6 : 1. Begin Drama with background on Tennessee Williams, American 20th c.
2. Pre-write on aspects of disabilities in our society. Complete a "T" chart comparing
characterization in novels with that in plays.
3. Read Act 1 "The Glass Menagerie" and 2 Grammar pages on writing dialog.
4. Read Act II . Predict possible conflicts and resolutions. How are attitudes and
opportunities for disabled different today? Create a "new" scene for play.
5. Quiz on Act I-II . Watch movie.
Week 7 : 1. Read aloud Act III . Act out Act IV.
2. Watch end of movie and make 5 questions of your own to be used on test.
3. Test on play including rewrite end of play (min 200 wds.)
4. Background on Charles Dickens and 19th c. England.Handouts for Pre-read.
5. Begin reading novel A Christmas Carol Ch. 1-3. Discuss family traditions.
Week 8 : 1. Read ch. 4-8 and answer study guide ques and vocab. defin.
2. Read ch 8-10 , study guide, vocab. and complete story map / grammar page.
3. Read ch. 11-12, Begin watching movie.
4. Read ch. 13-15 Use NET to research other novels by Dickens.Summaries.
5. Quiz Ch. 1-15. Watch movie.
Week 9 : 1. Read Ch. 16-17. Plot the changes in the characters and mood of novel.
2. Complete novel, study guide, vocab. define.
3. Finish movie . Create a Christmas scene with cut outs , both traditional elements and
possible new ideas.
4. Test on A Christmas Carol . Handout on paragraph structure.
5. Review for Exam. 2 novels and 1 play.
