Syllabus

Greetings!!! This year we will explore the world of Earth Science, together, through interactive discussion, hands on lab activities and cooperative
learning. In order to accomplish this goal, it is best for us to follow certain guidelines to insure everyone is treated fairly and is provided an
equal opportunity to learn at their maximum potential.

Class Guidelines

1) Be respectful: Treating yourself, your classmates, faculty and school property with respect at all times. Disruptive behavior, derogatory comments about oneself,
other students or faculty will not be tolerated.

2) Be responsible: Includes entering the classroom, being seated and ready to begin before the tardy bell rings. Bringing all necessary assignments and
supplies (paper, textbook, rulers, etc.) to every class period. Using your planner to write down homework and other assignment due dates.
Turning in assignments on time and making up missed work when absent.

3) Be positive: Every student should feel free to participate and share their thoughts (when appropriate) in order to work together and accept
each others strengths and weaknesses. As a team member, you have the ability to help yourself and your classmates succeed.
Any negative behavior that disturbs the learning of another student will result in consequences.

  Class Procedures:
1) Class will begin with a bell work assignment to be completed while I take role and prepare for class.
You are expected to be in your seat and working by the time the tardy bell rings.

2) A labeled file will be kept for each class period for turning in class work and homework assignments.

   ***Classwork:

Classwork will be due at the end of class unless told otherwise and should be placed in the correct tray with your name and class period.
Classwork assignments that extend beyond the classroom will be accepted late at -10 points per day until the day they are reviewed in class.

  3) A grading sheet will be kept in your binders to assist in keeping track of your grades. You can earn bonus points by having the sheet
completed and signed by a parent or guardian at the end of the nine weeks.

 4) You are responsible for your make up work when absent. If you know you will be absent for more than 2 days, please try and have a
parent or family member pick up work so you do not get too far behind. It will be your responsibility to see me and get necessary make up assignments.

As a member of my class, I value your ideas and interests. To make this a fun and interesting year, I need your help. I can not force you to love
science like I do, but expect you to build an appreciation and understanding of the content. As a teacher, I can provide guidance but you must provide the
desire and work together as a team to meet these goals.
