Classroom News
February 8-12
We will celebrate Valentine's Day and the Chinese New Year when we return from the Mardi Gras holiday; instead of trying to fit everything in this week. A class card exchange will be Tues. Feb. 22. Your child can bring cards to share with the class if he or she chooses. We would like to have a special snack. If you would like to send a treat or snack, please let me know.
We have P.E. on Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays each week. It is best if your child wears tennis shoes on those days. Other special classes include Computer Lab on Tuesdays, Library on Wednesdays, Music on Thursdays and Art on Fridays. If you would like to help in Art or Computer Lab, please let me know! We would love to have your involvement.
Look What We Are Doing...
Reading: Our literature focus this week will be books about the three bears and Mardi Gras. We will discuss story sequence point of view and other story elements. We will also learn about the history of Mardi Gras.
Cuddly Dudley has begun his homework tour of our class; so be on the watch for him! He will only be sent home Monday-Thursday evenings so if your child gets discouraged, stress patience everyone will get a turn. Please return him the very next day so he is able to visit everyone more quickly!!
We will cover the letter and sound for Bb. We will continue to sound out words and then take them apart; counting the sounds we hear in a word.
We are writing sentences using a sentence frame. The children are encouraged to begin sentences with capital letters, use ending punctuation as well as proper spacing between words. (A sentence frame is a set of words we all begin with, then each child inserts his or her own ideas to personalize the sentence. An example would be: I like ________.)
At Home: Encourage you child to write and spell words the way they sound. Use sight words to make up sentences. Write and illustrate some of them.
