JUNIORS IN SERVICE PROGRAM

Calling all Juniors!

Build leadership skills through community service with the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell.

The Junior Auxiliary of Slidell offers the Juniors in Service program. This program is open to all students who will be entering their Junior year of high school in the fall of 2017. The program will build leadership skills while teaching community stewardship through service.

Each Junior in Service must complete a minimum of 12 hours of service during the 2017-2018 school year. Many opportunities will be available to the Juniors including Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics at Stennis Space Center and working with children at Rainbow Childcare.

Aside from service opportunities, Juniors will participate in a team building activity and explore needs in the community they can fill by applying their time and talent. They will also develop a mission statement for their class of 2017 -2018.

Each Junior must obtain a sponsor. The sponsor may be a parent(s), business, or community group. Each sponsor must contribute a sponsor fee of $40 that will be used to defray the cost of the Juniors in Service project and other Junior Auxiliary
projects.

Juniors will be given a t-shirt to wear with the Juniors in Service slogan when they are involved in service activities. A Junior Auxiliary member will act as a mentor and will contact their Junior regularly with information about upcoming events.

Juniors will be recognized at the end of the year graduation ceremony. The Juniors in Service program is open to the first 50 students who submit a completed application and sponsor form, along with the $40 payment.  Packets are available from each school counselor.  The deadline for application is September 16, 2017.

The orientation meeting is mandatory. It will be held in September 16, 2017, from 2-4 pm at Park Provence Fitness Room, 1925 Possum Hollow Rd., Slidell, LA 70458

Along with numerous volunteer opportunities, a Habitat for Humanity build and participation with Special Olympics will be offered. Participation in at least one of these activities is highly encouraged. Both are extremely important activities that
Juniors should experience. Special Olympics is usually held in March at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.

If you have additional questions or need more information, please email Hilary Toups at hilarytoups@bellsouth.net .
