Unit Title:	Volumetric Shading
Content Area: Art 1		Grade: 9-12	Duration: Weeks
Standards and Benchmarks:	VA-CE-H3 Use the elements and principles of design for individual expression while exploring compositional problems; (1,2,3) VA-CE-H7 Maintain a sketchbook or journal and develop a portfolio. (1,4)
Objectives:	Control shading value techniques and how to respond to volumetric value shapes while creating interesting single object compositions. Complete Drawing 3 Master Copy Georgia O’Keeffe; start Drawing 4 Still Life Volumetric Shading. The student will learn shading value techniques and how to respond to volumetric value shapes while creating interesting composition.
Resources and Materials:	Still Life; compressed charcoal, gray 60 lb paper, kneaded and pink pearl erasers, blending paper and apron.
Differentiation:	Student selection of appropriate materials, independent and guided instructions.
Preparing Students for the Lesson: · Transitions · Expected behaviors	Demonstration of techniques for value practice understanding the limitation of charcoal. Keeping charcoal dust down.
Assessment:	Correct use of materials, correct technique used and craftsmanship. Focus and effort.
