Unit Plan Teacher Name: C. Despenza
Unit Title: Value Study (Emphases on Composition) Content Area: Art 1 Grade: 9-12 Duration: Weeks Standards and Benchmarks: VA-CE-H3 Use the elements and principles of design for individual expression while exploring compositional problems; (1,2) Objectives: The student will learn to respond to value shapes and contrast while practicing shading techniques. Start and work on (over a 9 week period) an independent project at home. Resources and Materials: 6 small paper bags: Ebony pencil and manila paper; Vine charcoal and newsprint, kneaded and pink pearl erasers, blending paper and apron. Differentiation: Process verses product. Student selection of appropriate materials, independent and guided instructions. Preparing Students for the Lesson: · Transitions · Expected behaviors Demonstration of techniques for value practice understanding the limitation of vine charcoal. Drawing from different views to identify what may be a better composition. (seeing negative and positive space…shapes) Assessment: Correct use of materials, correct technique used and craftsmanship. Focus and effort. 9 week project must be brought to school every two (2) weeks due on Fridays.
