FILING THE FAFSA ELECTRONICALLY---available Jan. 1, 2009
Seniors and parents are strongly encouraged to apply for financial aid
(grants, loans, work study and TOPS) for the 2009-10 school year, using the
online FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Both the student and
parent will need a PIN number. You can request a PIN by going to

www.pin.ed.gov. Getting your PIN early will make it easier when you are ready
to sit down and fill out your FAFSA on the web.

The FAFSA website is www.FAFSA.ed.gov. A FAFSA worksheet is available online
at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fafsaws78bw.pdf. Remember, your parents must have
computed their 2008 income tax return information in order for you to
complete the FAFSA.

TOPS requires you to include one Louisiana college code to receive your FAFSA
information. You should do this even if you are initially planning to attend
a college out-of-state, because if you end up attending a LA college, you
will
have met this particular TOPS requirement.

Parents please be aware that Louisiana law now requires all students
attending colleges in Louisiana to receive a vaccine for protection against
meningitis. It is especially important for those students planning to live
in dormitories, but is beneficial for all students even while they are in
high school. The newest vaccine available is called Menactra and should
provide life long protection. The vaccine should be available through your
physician, but be aware not all insurance companies are covering this
immunization and costs about $100. It can also be given at the St. Tammany
Parish Health Unit which is now located on the Northshore Regional Medical
Center complex,105 Medical Center Drive Suite 101 for a cost of $10. You
can contact the health unit at 646-6445. Be proactive and get your student
immunized against meningitis.
