FAFSA NEWS: CHANGE IN DISTRIBUTION

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid paper form will NOT be
distributed to seniors this year, as paper copies are not available in bulk to
schools. You may obtain a paper copy of the FAFSA by calling 1(800) 4-FED-AID
(1-800-433-3243) or by downloading a PDF version from various Federal Student
Aid web sites such as www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov. Parents and students may
apply now for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet is also
available at http://www.edpubs.org/bpos/pdf/EN00793P.pdf.

The filing of the FAFSA is a requirement for the T.O.P.S program and also a
means to possibly qualify for financial assistance, i.e., Pell Grant,
Campus-Based Aid and a number of different types of loans. Any and all
financial aid can be used to help pay for a student's education after high
school; BUT, you must file the FAFSA in order to determine what type of aid
you are eligible to receive. Deadline is July 1!

There will be a presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 7:00 p.m. in the
Slidell City Auditorium for parents and students regarding the FAFSA &
Financial Aid. If you and your parents have not filed a FAFSA before, this
presentation will assist you in understanding how to complete the FAFSA
correctly. Prior to the presentation, please review the FAFSA so that any
questions you may have about it, can be answered that evening.

The FAFSA cannot be filed before January 1, 2009.

APPLYING TO TULANE OR XAVIER?
The 2009-2010 Profile will be available Oct. 1.

CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE:
About 600 schools nationwide (including Tulane & Xavier) require students to
fill out the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE to determine eligibility for
non-federal forms of financial aid. This form is more detailed than the FAFSA
and will ask a lot of questions about your family's assets. Also, unlike the
FAFSA, there's a cost associated with the PROFILE; there is a $5 fee for
filing online and you'll pay $18 for every school to which you have the
results sent. You can complete the PROFILE online at
https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp
