Unit Description:  Atomic structure/chemical reactions

 

Chapter Essential Questions: Can students describe nuclear radioactivity?  Con students differentiate between fission and fussion?

  1. Describe the structure of the nucleus.
  2. Explain what radioactivity is.
  3. Discuss the discovery of radioactivity.

 

  1. Explain what nuclear radioactivity is.
  2. Explain why some nuclei are stable and others unstable.
  3. Compare and contrast 3 types of radiation.

 

  1. Write and finish nuclear equations.
  2. Calculate half life problems.
  3. Describe the process of radioactive dating.

 

 

  1. Calculate half life and the amount of mass left in problems.
  2. Writing and completing nuclear equations.
  3. Explain ways of detecting radiation.
  4. Effects of Radioation.

 

  1. Be able to read and summarize short science articles.
  2. Write and solve nuclear equations and half life problems.

  1. Discuss half life probs and nuclear equations.
  2. 15 min video on effects of radiaton.
  3. Test tomorrow on nuclear equations and half life problems.

 

  1. Test on half life problems and nuclear equations.
  2. Read and summarize any two articles in Current Science magazine.

Finish vocab. Pg 285.

Questions pg 267, 1-5
