COURSE NAME       IBCA - A

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Prerequisite:  None

 

This course is the first of two courses designed to provide students with basic computer application skills. Students will be introduced, for a minimum of six weeks of the school year, to the touch method operating a computer keyboard to produce simple business documents.  Emphasis is placed on basic computer concepts and word processing. Skills needed to obtain Microsoft™ Office Word Core Certification will be emphasized so that students may obtain basic word processing certification.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES


  1. To demonstrate mastery of basic keyboarding techniques using the touch system
  2. To demonstrate the ability to correctly operate and care for the computer
  3. To correctly apply the basic formatting principles when keying documents for personal/business use
  4. To demonstrate the ability to correctly use the operating system and to manage files
  5. To demonstrate the ability to efficiently create, print, format, and edit Word documents
  6. To apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills utilizing the Help feature
  7. To enhance the visual display and clarity of documents
  8. To work with multiple documents
  9. To create and format tables
  10. To insert graphic elements
  11. To explore the Internet

     

 

MATERIALS REQUIRED

Binder or notebook with paper, pen, report folders, presentation supplies

    Microsoft Word 2000 by Nita Rutkosky (Benchmark Series)

 

 

CLASSROOM POLICIES

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings
  2. Follow school rules
  3. Do not eat or drink in class
  4. Stay in your assigned seat until the bell rings
  5. Respect self, others, school property, computers, and books

 

  

COMPUTER LAB RULES:

*The St. Tammany Parish School Board requires all students to have a Student Technology Agreement on file for a student to have access to the Internet.  No student will be allowed to access the Internet without it.

*It is every student’s responsibility to respect the computers and property of Salmen High School.  Students are responsible for reporting damage immediately. Any vandalism or mistreatment of school property will be referred to the Principal’s office.

*Students must complete their own work. Borrowing another student’s work is considered cheating and will be treated accordingly. 

*Students are not allowed to change computers settings, screen savers, screen tips or download for the Internet without permission.
