COURSE NAME       Business Computer Applications

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Prerequisite:  IBCA

 

This course is designed to acquaint student with the advanced principles associated with information processing.  Students study advanced computer concepts, software applications, and computer systems.  Emphasis is placed on skill development in using technology to perform advanced information processing. Topics of study include computer concepts, word processing, spreadsheet, and database and presentation software applications.  Computer technology will be presented that may lead to student’s ability to obtain certification in popular office software packages that include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation programs.  Communication skills, keyboarding, decision-making, technology and critical thinking skills are reinforced in this course through business application projects.  Simulations, projects, teamwork, DECA and FLBA leadership activities, meetings, conference, and competition provide opportunities for application of instruction competencies. 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

1.       Use appropriate communication skills to communicate in a business environment

2.       Demonstrate positive work ethics in the workplace

3.       Demonstrate skills for positive working relationships

4.       Use current technology and information processing concepts for personal and business applications

5.       Produce various business and personal documents using word processing applications

6.       Produce various business and personal documents using spreadsheet applications

7.       Produce various business and personal documents using database applications

8.       Apply desktop publishing concepts and effective communication techniques to produce business and personal documents

9.       Demonstrate the understanding of advanced principles associated with computer concepts

10.   Demonstrate the understanding of advanced principles associated with information processing

CLASSROOM POLICIES

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings
  2. Follow school rules
  3. Do not eat or drink in class
  4. Stay in your assigned seat until the bell rings
  5. Respect self, others, school property, computers, and books

 

 

 

COMPUTER LAB RULES:

*The St. Tammany Parish School Board requires all students to have a Student Technology Agreement on file for a student to have access to the Internet.  No student will be allowed to access the Internet without it.

*It is every student’s responsibility to respect the computers and property of Salmen High School.  Students are responsible for reporting damage immediately. Any vandalism or mistreatment of school property will be referred to the Principal’s office.

*Students must complete their own work. Borrowing another student’s work is considered cheating and will be treated accordingly. 

*Students are not allowed to change computers settings, screen savers, screen tips or download for the Internet without permission.
