COURSE NAME       PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Prerequisite:  IBCA

 

This course is an introductory course that provides students with basic business operations skills that can be applied in both personal and professional situations. Emphasis is placed on the exploration and description of basic business concepts and applications.  Through business application projects critical-thinking, oral and written communication skills are reinforced in this course.  Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course are job shadowing, field trips, and service learning.  Simulations, projects, teamwork, and FBLA leadership activities, meetings, conferences, and competitions provide opportunities for application of instructional competencies.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

1.       Understand and apply basic accounting information

2.       Research careers and apply skills needed for initial and continued employment

3.       Develop attitudes, procedures, and skills necessary to function in a variety of offices

4.       Use appropriate communication skills to communicate in a business environment

5.       Demonstrate positive work ethics in the workplace

6.       Demonstrate skills for positive working relationships

7.       Demonstrate the ability to maintain personal business records

8.       Apply business law strategies to personal and business settings

9.       Explore the role of an entrepreneur and apply the concepts of entrepreneurship

10.   Understand the American business system in order to function as a productive citizen, consumer and worker

11.   Identify and explain the importance of business management concepts and the role of marketing in the global environment

12.   Use economic concepts to understand and make reasoned decisions about economic issues

13.   Apply math computational and problem-solving skills in personal, business, and consumer applications

14.   Use current technology and information processing concepts for personal and business applications

15.   Produce business and personal presentations using multimedia technology

16.   Apply desktop publishing concepts and effective communication techniques to produce business and personal documents

17.   Explore and use telecommunications systems

18.   Produce various business documents using word processing concepts and procedures

Binder or notebook with paper, pen, report folders, presentation supplies

CLASSROOM POLICIES

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings
  2. Follow school rules
  3. Do not eat or drink in class
  4. Stay in your assigned seat until the bell rings
  5. Respect self, others, school property, computers, and books

 

 

 

COMPUTER LAB RULES:

*The St. Tammany Parish School Board requires all students to have a Student Technology Agreement on file for a student to have access to the Internet.  No student will be allowed to access the Internet without it.

*It is every student’s responsibility to respect the computers and property of Salmen High School.  Students are responsible for reporting damage immediately. Any vandalism or mistreatment of school property will be referred to the Principal’s office.

*Students must complete their own work. Borrowing another student’s work is considered cheating and will be treated accordingly. 

*Students are not allowed to change computers settings, screen savers, screen tips or download for the Internet without permission.
