Salmen Legacy Garden

The Salmen High School Legacy Garden

Rebuilding Salmen One Brick at a Time

Although Salmen High School was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the storm didn’t destroy the Spartan spirit. Classes are now held in temporary buildings on the site of the original Salmen Campus. The new Salmen High School is currently being rebuilt with the goal of re-opening its facilities at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. We celebrate the rebirth of Salmen High School with an eye to the future. While the eye of the hurricane may have destroyed the physical structures, it could not dampen the Spartan Spirit.

The alumni of Salmen High, along with the PTSA, are designing a Legacy Garden to commemorate the history of the school, from its beginning in 1965 to its rebirth today. The project will be funded through the sale of engraved brick pavers, which will serve as the foundation for the garden, and will utilize the talents of local artists and businesses.

The brick pavers will be engraved with names which will become part of a permanent legacy in the garden for years to come. Everyone is invited to buy a brick, for yourself or someone else, to commemorate or honor a loved one, friend, or teacher, or to acknowledge a special event or occasion. This is your opportunity to honor those who inspired you to strive for knowledge and success.

Your purchase of a personalized brick will not only help support the rebuilding of Salmen High School, one brick at a time, but it will also support an educational environment that will serve to inspire the students of today and tomorrow to learn and succeed. All former and current students, teachers, clubs, organizations, and members of the local community are invited to own a piece of Salmen history by purchasing an engraved brick.

Order forms may be obtained online at http://salmenhigh@stpsb.org or http://teacherweb.com/LA/SalmenHighSchool/PTSA, or by contacting Cindy Boudreau at salmenhighptsa@yahoo.com, Cynthia Abney at ceeabney@charter.net, or Sheila Dunn at sheiladunn@charter.net.
