PROJECT GRADUATION

The motto of Project Graduation is  "If just one young life is saved, it is all worthwhile."

Project Graduation is an annual community-sponsored, parent coordinated, alcohol, drug and tobacco free event that allows the senior classes of Salmen, Pope John Paul II, Slidell, Pearl River, and Northshore High Schools to enjoy an all-night celebration on the night of their respective graduations in May.

Seniors are able to enjoy a safe evening of games, food, music, and prizes with their classmates before they go their separate ways after graduation. The Project Graduation organization has been successful in preventing the needless loss of life due to an alcohol or drug related accident on graduation night.

Salmen High School has the overall responsibility (the entire week/all schools) for: Games, Building/Construction; and Decorations.

Set-up: (May 7th) The equipment/supplies will be delivered to John Slidell Park Gym  by 8:00 a.m. A crew is needed to help set up all of the games, etc. and this job requires several people and involves manual labor/some construction skills.

Security - We need parent volunteers to man the entrance/exit doors at the auditorium. We need to have at least 7 parents (at all times) in this capacity throughout the night. To help, call ______________. We cannot open the doors to the party until all doors are manned by a parent/guardian.

Chaperones/workers - We need approx. 75 parents to serve as chaperones/workers on the night of Salmen's party (May 10). You do NOT have to stay all night - you can sign up for a specific shift. To sign up contact Cindy Boudreau or Monique Lewis. A sign up sheet will also be available at all Senior Parent meetings.

Clean-Up: May 15 - At 8:00 a.m. taking everything down in auditorium, loading U-Haul and returning to storage) We need "fresh and well rested bodies" to help with clean-up. If you can't come out during the event, your help is greatly appreciated on May 15.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR STUDENTS ENROLLING IN LOUISIANA COLLEGES***
Parents please be aware that Lousiana law now requires all students attending colleges in Louisiana to receive a vaccine for protection against meningitis. It is especially important for those students planning to live in dormitories, but is beneficial for all students even while they are in high school. The newest vaccine available is called Menactra and should provide life long
protection. The vaccine should be available through your physician, but be aware not all insurance companies are covering this immunization and costs about $100. It can also be given at the St. Tammany Parish Health Unit which is now located on the Northshore Regional Medical Center complex,105 Medical Center Drive Suite 101 for a cost of $10. You can contact the health unit at 646-6445. Be proactive and get your student immunized against meningitis!
