English II (honors) August 8, 2008
Research paper- Compare/Contrast the two Presidential candidates’ views
No late papers will be accepted. Furthermore, if you are absent on the final draft due date,
then you need to have the paper turned in to me by 2:40 on September 19, 2008. The only
exception is that you are in the hospital, and then I need an excuse from the doctor to
accompany the paper.
Rough draft is due: Thursday, September 11, 2008
Final paper is due: Friday, September 19, 2008
Note cards are due: Friday, September 19, 2008
1. The research paper must be typed.
2. It has be 5-10 pages typed.
3. It has to be in correct MLA format.
4. It has to have at least 40 index cards written on the topic.
5. It has to have a Work Cited page.
6. It has to have at least 5 different sources; only two sources can be from the Internet.
7. Other sources can come from magazines and/or newspapers.
You will receive two grades for this assignment.
1. One grade will be on the outline, the information in the research paper, and
the Works Cited page.
2. One grade will be on MLA format, note cards, and spelling, grammar, capitalization,
punctuation, and sentence structure.
3. The research paper counts as part of 20% Project/ Research paper grade.
Set up of the paper:
1. Title page – Name, Date, Title of paper, and Teacher’s name (Please no binders or report
covers, just staple the papers together).
2. Outline
3. Paragraph 1- Introduction
4. Body paragraphs- Compare/Contrast the candidates’ views on various topics. The topics
need to be the same; for example, if one paragraph is on education then you must write about
both candidates’ views on education).
5. Conclusion- Your opinion on who you think has the better plan and give specific reasons
why. (It must be at least ½ of a page typed).
