OPTION 3 TIER 2 WORK SKILLS PROGRAM ________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Students rotate through various work environments to learn work skills unique to each area and learn to work with different mentors as they practice work ethics, accountability, and the social and communication skills required for success in the real work world. Work sites include Salmen High students work off campus 4 days a week. Northshore High students work off campus 5 days a week. Resources/Materials: ON THE JOB TRAINING with mentors from various local businesses, Regulation uniform including non-slip work shoes, school ID, & Security Badges | ||||||||

THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES WILL STAND EVERY WEEK:

3. Students will challenge themselves to ATTEND SCHOOL EVERY DAY and to arrive at school prepared and on time. This is a daily exercise of time management. 4. Students will further practice TIME MANAGEMENT and dependability, by demonstrating respect for time deadlines at work by reporting promptly to work areas and pick up times without being cued. Students will be encouraged to manage their own time by wearing a watch and using it. |
5. All students will strive for a “B” or greater average each week. If attained, achievers earn a seat at the BREAKFAST CLUB TABLE on Friday mornings sponsored by While having breakfast, we use this time as an opportunity to examine, discuss, and practice appropriate work place MANNERS, ETIQUETTE, AND SOCIAL SKILLS. We also revel in the success that each student earned. 6. Weekly objectives will be identified and demonstrated by students as WORK ETHICS. Ethics identified and practiced will include punctuality, following directions, taking pride in work, goal setting, customer service, respect for authority, honesty, initiative, etc. One ethic will be emphasized each week. |
7. Students will discuss and practice various WORK SKILLS and WORK ETHICS unique to their work assignments. When mastered, they will rotate to another area, department, mentor, venue, etc, .to begin another round of skill immersion. Skills identified and practiced include, but are not limited to key board, workplace etiquette, respect for and demonstration of workplace rules and regulations, hospital room discharges, confidentiality compliance, teacher assistance, student assistance, operation of various office machines, reading various workplace forms, job seeking, etc. |

Student Learning Activities: |
SALMEN HIGH – Students will report to NORTHSHORE HIGH – Students will report to Students from both schools are assigned to different teachers in the classrooms and other work areas in these schools such as the cafeteria as monitors, the office, and the library. They help students with small reading groups, penmanship groups, materials preparation, filing, copying, running errands, etc., then report to our pick up area on time. In addition, students practice being flexible, receiving instructions, asking questions for clarity, attitude control, and interacting appropriately with different audiences, in various environments, and with people in places of authority. |
SALMEN STUDENTS WILL REPORT TO NORTHSHORE HIGH THE SPIRIT TEAM WILL REPORT TO NSRMC. THE PANTHER TEAM WILL REPORT TO WINN At NSRMC, interns report to work areas and mentors. They practice infection control unique to each area. They obey confidentiality laws in all areas. Interns are becoming acquainted with their own sense of accountability. This year interns will rotate among the following departments: Finance Department Environmental Services Dietary Housekeeping Education Rehabilitation At Winn Dixie, students are assigned to the different departments throughout the store and work side by side with the store employees. They practice customer service, become familiar with industry terms like Worker,s Compensation, OSHA, public liability, shop back, etc., and practice skills unique to each department such as stocking by expiration date, turning labels out, how to stock efficiently, food preparation and handling, etc.

THE PANTHER TEAM WILL REPORT TO WINN In addition, students, while working at Winn Dixie will rotate through the following departments: Bakery Front End Deli Dairy General Goods Floral They will observe and participate in the normal every day activities of a large grocery operation.

The Salmen High students who have maintained a “B” average (or better) this week have earned a place at the Breakfast Club Table and will enjoy a free breakfast at NSRMC before reporting to their work areas. This is a reward that is offered to achievers every week | ||||
