WILL REMAIN ON CAMPUS.

Our intern/mentor Appreciation Luncheon was a total success. 20 students from Salmen and Northshore High Schools were in attendance and received certificates which included their total hospital volunteer hours. Our students worked a total 660 volunteer hours at the hospital this year. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL. Including administrators, teachers, mentors, parents, and students, about 50 people enjoyed a fine meal and a wonderful time of celebration. We are graduating 2 seniors. Even though they will be missed, we wish them the best of luck as they step into society prepared and capable to take their place in our community. We are all very proud of your accomplishments.

 OUR CLASS TODAY

Students will view a video series about identifying work ethics,  personality traits, and skills that are important to employers, entitled SURVIVING THE FIRST 90 DAYS. We will view this series that includes 6, three part module videos with worksheets. This will take us through the end of the quarter.

In addition, students will explore and interact in our computer lab with programs that will include an interactive typing tutorial, social skills, and an array of job sites.

Homework:

Students are given individual EVALUATION FORMS every Friday. They are to return them, with parental signatures/questions/comments, the next school day.

Assessments: Observations while at work. A few weeks ago we implemented a reward system. Any student who has a B average or above for that week will earn breakfast at NSRMC on Thursday mornings. A notice was sent home stapled to each student’s evaluation report to weeks ago that required parental/guardian signatures. The class discussed the reasons for and elements that will affect their weekly averages negatively or positively. All elements are assessed in the real work world.

How will I address literacy this week? Students will learn to read, spell, define, and demonstrate this week’s work ethics and various character traits. In addition, students will practice reading for directions and receiving instructions from various sources on- the- job at NSRMC. Since the elementary schools of our parish have also embraced literacy, our students are assisting younger students in individual and small reading groups at their elementary school assignments.
